Mameshiba, translated as "bean dog," are an endearing phenomenon that has captured the hearts of many. These adorable and peculiar creatures are a cross between a dog and a legume, resulting in a delightful combination of cuteness and quirkiness. These characters have become popular in Japan and beyond, often featured in merchandise, and animations. Mameshiba became popular through a series of animated interstitial produced by Dentsu that were sold to Japanese television networks to air instead of commercials.
Designing a packaging for Mameshiba brings together the perfect balance of creativity and playfulness. The Mameshiba characters, with their adorable bean-shaped bodies and expressive faces, serve as a refreshing inspiration for the packaging design. The main objective was to capture the brand and their charm to convey it through visual elements. I have added a color palette that is vibrant and bright, reflecting the cheerful nature of Mameshibas. A combination of typography, quirky illustrations, and printing techniques is implemented to create visual appeal.
